After spending 10 days in Japan, we were excited to experience Singapore. We spent three nights in Singapore total: two nights before and one after our time in the Maldives. Our last night was at the Conrad Centennial Singapore, but for the first two nights, we stayed at the InterContinental Singapore. I picked the hotel for its location and historic, Colonial look. Here’s my review of the InterContinental Singapore.
Booking the InterContinental Singapore with Points
The InterContinental Singapore is bookable for 50,000 IHG points per night. This rate will get you a Deluxe King room which is what I’ll be reviewing.
InterContinental Singapore Location
The InterContinental Singapore is located in the Bugis area of Singapore near Bugis Street. It is set back a bit from the Marina Bay area which means it doesn’t have some of the views of other, newer hotels. However, it’s more centrally located so you can see other areas like Kampong Glam easily. It’s only a five-minute walk from the Bugis MRT station. We ended up walking everywhere including Chinatown and Gardens by the Bay which are each about 30 minutes away on foot.
Dining and Amenities
The InterContinental Singapore has three restaurants onsite: Ash & Elm, a modern restaurant specializing in wood-fired and charcoal-grilled food; Man Fu Yuan, which serves authentic Cantonese cuisine; and Chikuyotei, known for its Japanese fine dining. There is also a huge lobby lounge which serves drinks and afternoon tea. We had our free welcome drink here. Last but not least is Idlewild, an upscale cocktail bar.
Amenities include an outdoor swimming pool and a 24-hour fitness center with a sauna and yoga room. The hotel does not offer any spa services.
The lobby was a decent size, and the decor matched the historic vibe of the building. Around the corner from the check-in area was the lobby lounge. The lounge was massive, and I was surprised to see how many people made use of it. We arrived after 2:00 am and were checked in promptly.
InterContinental Singapore Deluxe Room King
One of the reasons I picked the hotel was the light and airy design. This was carried through to the hallways.
The room was nice but not terribly big. It had a small entryway with the bathroom off to the left.
The entryway had a luggage stool and a piece of furniture that stored the tea and coffee.
There was a honeymoon treat set out for us when we arrived.
My photos are a bit dark since we arrived at night. The shades were drawn but there was not much of a view. The room felt nice enough but definitely a step down from the InterContinental Osaka. Overall, I felt like the pictures on the website made the room look nicer than it actually was. I did appreciate the towel swans, which were part of our honeymoon display.
Next to the bed was a Handy smartphone. It had a data plan and could be used outside of the room for directions and getting around. We got a few good hours of use out of it before it unfortunately died. It never seemed to function properly. Hopefully, our experience was an exception to the rule since I really do like this idea.
Next to the bed were a small sofa and a desk.
The room also had a closet with robes, a safe, an ironing board, and iron.
The bathroom was nothing special. The toilet was in the same space as the sink, shower, and bathtub. There was only one sink and counter space was limited.
The toiletries were from Agraria and included shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and lotion.
Gotta love the extra honeymoon touch on the bathtub!
The shower stall was small and dark but got the job done.
Our stay at the InterContinental Singapore was nice but nothing super special. I do have to say they did a better honeymoon display than the Ritz-Carltons we stayed at in Japan. While the design of the hotel was beautiful with a color palette and silk wall hangings chosen to reflect the Peranakan culture, the room didn’t feel as nice as it looked online. Overall, we enjoyed the location of the hotel, but I might recommend something on the bay with a view for a first-timer to Singapore.
