Since my last results post, we’ve been taking it even slower with opening new cards. This is the fewest cards we’ve opened in a quarter since we caught the churning bug. Here are our credit card applications and results for Spring 2018.
My Applications
CitiBusiness / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard
Citi and I haven’t gotten along in the past but I decided to give this card a try because of the increased sign-up bonus. I was beyond shocked when the card was approved instantly! I don’t have immediate plans for the miles, but it would be cool to fly Etihad Apartments at some point.
Result: Instant approval
Bonus: 70,000 American Airlines miles after spending $4,000 in 4 months, worth at least $950.
My Fiancé’s Applications
Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Card from American Express
I applied for this card earlier this year so he was able to use my referral link to sign-up for the same offer. Delta redemptions can be tricky but they’re generally good for flying to Europe from the East Coast if you plan far enough in advance.
Result: Pending, but then approved
Bonus: 50,000 miles after spending $2,000 in the first 3 months and an additional 10,000 miles after spending an additional $1,000 in the first 6 months. The value of these points can swing drastically but let’s just say the 60,000 miles are worth about $700.
Final Thoughts
This spring was definitely slow in terms of opening new cards. In July, one of my fiancé’s 5/24 spots will become available so we may try for the new Chase Ink Unlimited. I don’t really have anything else on my radar, but it’ll be interesting to see what the sign-up bonus for the SPG Luxury card is going to look like.
