After a long day at work, I plopped down on my couch and did what I like to do in my spare time. I started searching flights for a trip slated for next fall. I tend to book my trips far in advance so I like to see what my options are even when it’s too early to book. Well, I was certainly shocked to see that a majority of the flights from Boston to Paris on Delta are pricing out at 105,000 miles one way! I was able to find a few options priced at 37,000 or 32,500 miles on random days throughout the year, but they were few and far between.
It’s not really clear why some flights are so much higher. I initially thought flights on Delta metal were priced higher but I also have seen direct flights on Delta priced at 37,000 miles. I can’t tell if this is a glitch or the sad future of my 93,000 SkyPesos. Looks like I’ll be looking into alternatives unless this situation changes over the next month or two.
The only way I have been able to get level 1 awards with Delta on international flights is to check their site every day and to plan to travel to Europe on a Tuesday or Wednesday or to return on WRF. So far that strategy has always worked.
I’ve had luck with two trips to Europe leaving on Fridays for 30-35k miles but looks like those days may be over…
