Zagreb wasn’t initially a stop on my Croatia itinerary. With less than a week to visit, I was eager to head to Split and Dubrovnik right away. I’m glad I was able to squeeze in one night in Zagreb. Staying at the Canopy by Hilton made the experience even more enjoyable. Here’s my review of the Canopy by Hilton Zagreb City Centre.
Booking the Canopy by Hilton Zagreb with Points
I picked the Canopy by Hilton since it was bookable by points. I visited in the summer when rates are more expensive so a room cost 40,000 Hilton Honors points. Hilton uses dynamic pricing so if you are traveling in the winter, you may see rates as low as 18,000 points.
Canopy by Hilton Zagreb Location
The Canopy by Hilton Zagreb is located in the city center about a mile walk from Jelacic Square. It’s a little more than a mile to walk to historic Upper Town from the Canopy by Hilton Zagreb. While we were only in Zagreb for an evening, we made the walk to and from the hotel without issue. The Canopy by Hilton Zagreb is located close to the main train station which is very convenient for those traveling by rail.
Dining and Amenities
The Canopy by Hilton Zagreb has a restaurant, the Canopy Central Cafe and Bar, which is open daily from 7:00am to 11:00pm. Each night the bar offers local drinks and small bites for guests. We missed this, but it’s something to check out if you’re around for it. As Diamond members, we had our complimentary breakfast at the buffet in the restaurant. The hotel has such a cool aesthetic and this was reflected in the restaurant too. This was one of the best free breakfasts I’ve had at any hotel with attentive staff and plenty of local options like plum cake.

As for other amenities, the hotel has a fitness center, massage studio, business center, and meeting space. They also have several bicycles for guests to borrow. One amenity I have yet to see at a hotel was free water filling stations on some of the floors.
Lobby
The entrance to the Canopy by Hilton Zagreb makes it feel like a boutique hotel rather than a Hilton. The design of the hotel is industrial which is a play on the old plants and factories in the area where the hotel was built. The lobby had a large seating area to the left near the bar.

The reception desk was to the right of the entrance. The restaurant was located towards the back of the lobby past the elevators.

Canopy by Hilton Zagreb Twin Guest Room
The room wasn’t particularly large, but they did a good job with a small space.

Since I was staying with my mom, I booked a room with two beds. Rather than traditional twin beds like you see in many European hotel rooms, I was pleasantly surprised to see two full beds. You can see the “canopy” which is the piece of artwork that extends up the wall and over the beds. The beds were super comfortable.

To the left upon entering the room was a closet of sorts. There was a huge spot to place luggage which was convenient since we needed to get in our bags but didn’t stay long enough to unpack. There were also hangers like a traditional closet and drawers below.

Next to the closet was a coffee and tea station. In the drawer below was a mini-fridge.

Next to the mini-fridge at the foot of the bed was a TV and a writing desk. The desk had an ice bucket and bottle that could be filled at the water filling station in the hall.

On the desk was a welcome amenity and letter. I loved the mini treats! Even better, there was a set for both me and my mom. They also gave us two cans of a local craft beer and a bottle of cherry juice. There were also Bajadera chocolates which is a local brand.

Here’s an example of how the artwork and attention to detail made this hotel feel extra special. Since the hotel was near the train station, there were a lot of train-related touches.

The bathroom was to the right upon entering the room. I loved the black and white design which made it look modern and clean.

The bathroom had a large shower stall with both waterfall and handheld showerheads.

The vanity only had one sink but I liked how there was ample counter space to put your toiletries.

The toiletries were well stocked with two sets of each item. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were from Apivita.

Final Thoughts
Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the Canopy by Hilton Zagreb. The entire hotel was well-decorated and the local theme was consistently carried throughout the rooms and common spaces. The breakfast buffet was delicious with great variety. This was my first time staying at a Canopy by Hilton, and if they are all as good as the one in Zagreb, I’ll definitely seek them out in the future.
Looks nice. I’ve stayed at the Sheraton in that area several times but I wasn’t familiar with this hotel.
Definitely check it out next time. Lots of nice little touches.
Good rates and nice rooms but the buffet breakfast is not all that great. Also, there’s an indoor/outdoor bar calles the Beertija (Beer Tija?) that’s fun with statues of rock legends like Bowie, Amy Winehouse and The Ramones.
@ Christian Love the Ramones, if it’s good enough for them it’s good enough for me…
I will be staying here a few nights next week. Diamond member also. Rooms only 23k points/night.
Great price! Hope you have a nice stay.
