Update 9/11/2016: This card now has a $2,000 spending requirement. The two free nights offer is still lucrative despite this increase.

The Hyatt credit card is a great card if you are new to travel hacking. Maybe I have a soft spot for it because it was the first card I got when I decided to give churning a try!

Note: Chase is known for denying applications if you have opened for five credit cards in the past 24 months from any bank. If you have not yet reached five credit cards in 24 months, you should apply for other Chase cards first since the Hyatt card is not subject to this rule.

A welcome gift from my stay at the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile

After spending $1,000 in three months, you get two free nights at virtually any Hyatt in the world. Yes, you can spend two nights at properties like the Park Hyatt Maldives (~$800 per night) FOR FREE! Aside from the bonus nights, Hyatt points tend to go further than points from other chains. It’s nice to earn some extra Hyatt points when using this card to meet the spending requirement.  Also, you can use bonuses from other cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve to turn your two free nights into a whole week! Since the Park Hyatt Maldives is 25,000 points per night, you could use the 100,000 bonus points from Chase Sapphire Reserve to get four additional nights for free.

The card also gets you Platinum membership which can help you get upgraded to a larger room like I did when I stayed at Andaz 5th Ave in Manhattan.

This is an amazing deal for spending $1,000 you would have spent anyway. As always, plan ahead to make sure you can get a room at the highly desirable properties that fill up quickly. And if you have a travel buddy, you can both sign up for the card and extend your free stay to four nights!
