I’ve written previously about how I’ve never been able to get approved for a Citi credit card. As a quick recap, I applied for three Citi personal credit cards over the span of a year. I waited at least three months in between applications yet received an automatic denial each time. Citi is sensitive to hard pulls so I was also cognizant of this when choosing to apply.
I still have a lot of wedding expenses coming up so I decided to apply for the CitiBusiness/ AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard. This card is currently offering 70,000 miles after spending $4,000 in four months. I submitted my application and held my breath. Automatic approval!
When applying for Citi personal cards, they always pull my Experian report, which to be honest, is kind of a hot mess. To my surprise, when applying for the business card, they pulled Equifax. Luckily, my Equifax report is squeaky clean. Not only did it help me get approved, but I’m glad my Experian report didn’t take another hit.
Final Thoughts
I’m glad I was finally approved for a Citi product, but I’m not confident that I will be as lucky with my next Citi personal card application. Even though it’s a business card, hopefully having some relationship with the bank will help me going forward.
