Now through August 8th, you can earn 100,000 American Express Membership Rewards points by signing up for the Amex Business Platinum. That’s worth at least $1,000 in free travel!
You’ll earn 50,000 points after spending $10,000 and an extra 50,000 points after you spend an additional $15,000 in the first 3 months.
While 100,000 points sounds great, I hardly think this offer is manageable for the everyday person. Of course, this is a business card so if you are opening it with the intent to use it for your business, I suppose it’s feasible. But let’s be honest, most churners will not be making legit business purchases when chasing this bonus.

If you can handle the $25,000 spend, you will get the most bang for your buck by booking flights or making large purchases given the earning structure. This card offers the following:
- 5x points on flights booked directly with the airline and prepaid hotels from amextravel.com
- 1.5x points on purchases of $5,000 or more
- 1x points on all other purchases
Final Thoughts
The Amex Business Platinum is a good card with lots of benefits to offset the $450 annual fee. While this is a great sign-up bonus at first look, the spending requirement makes it unobtainable for many so I personally will be sitting this one out. For those who want to go for it, I don’t recommend gift card purchases for meeting this spending requirement given crackdowns by Amex in the past.
