A few months ago, I wrote about being assigned a new Hilton Honors number when I signed up for the American Express Hilton Honors Surpass card, despite entering my Hilton Honors number on my application. The process of correcting this was a pain in the ass to say the least.
I recently applied for the no-annual fee Hilton Honors card from American Express, and lo-and-behold, I was assigned another new Hilton number. This time, I decided to try the chat function to get my number updated. I was shocked when the representative fixed the issue in less than a minute. He asked for the correct Hilton number and quickly processed my request. After 48 hours, the system updated and I was good to go!
Final Thoughts
After a bad phone experience with American Express customer service, I decided to try the chat feature for the same issue and was very pleased with the results. If you get a new rewards number assigned when you open a new American Express card, try chatting first since it’s much less frustrating than calling. Still, I have no clue why Amex can’t get it together and stop assigning new Hilton numbers!
Have you had any experiences with American Express assigning a new rewards program number despite providing it on the application?
